Attention New York Students

Attention: New York Residents or those Planning on Working In New York - A licensing law is in effect in the state of New York. It is your responsibility to keep informed of all NY state requirements and determine how these requirements may impact your educational path and/or future practice.

While we strive to make the ABA Online program accessible to students all around the globe, we realize that behavior analysis students must also adhere to any licensing regulations, restrictions, and applicable laws in the state or region in which they work. We want to make sure you are fully informed about any obstacles you might encounter on your journey to become certified in behavior analysis.

Although the ABA Online program is approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Boardr as a verified course sequence, the program is not pre-approved by the state of New York for licensure as a behavior analyst or assistant behavior analyst. Applicants for licensure as a licensed behavior analyst prior to September 1, 2019, may still use coursework from programs not registered in the state of New York, but which meet the criteria established in subdivision (c) of Subpart 79-17.1 of Article 167 of Title VIII of New York's Education Law in their application for admission to the licensing examination. Those who apply for admission to the licensing examination on or after September 1, 2019, will be required to meet the professional education requirements for admission to the licensing examination set forth in subdivision (b) of Subpart 79-17.1 of Article 167 of Title VIII of New York's Education Law.

It is the responsibility of all students to keep up on the requirements of the state you want to work in. We work hard to let you know of any obstacles we find out about, but it is your ultimate responsibility to keep up on changes in your state. It is imperative that ABA Online students planning to work as behavior analysts or assistant behavior analysts in the state of New York manage their coursework and any other application requirements in such a way that they will be able to apply for admission to the licensing examination prior to September 1, 2019, and that they familiarize themselves with the regulation of the practice of behavior analysis set by the New York State Department of Education, Office of the Professions. If you have any questions about New York's licensure regulations, please contact the State of New York Department of Education, Office of the Professions, at ababd@nysed.gov or by calling (518) 474-3817, extension 150.
